A Classic & Simple Summer Look

Classic and simple is the best way to describe this outfit. Classic because it incorporates a timeless white button-down shirt; simple because it can be easily thrown together in minutes and readily worn for any daytime occasion. The shorts are from +H&M and are made from a seersucker cotton with peach / white striping. I threw on the white button-down because I felt like it would best compliment the striping in the shorts. As for the belt, it is a simple vintage belt in a chestnut brown. When it came to my shoes, I thought I would try and wear the pair of blue woven leather +Johnston & Murphy loafers I was lucky enough to find at a thrift store last summer. Overall, with the light fabrics, pastel colors, and seersucker cotton, this is a very spring & summer appropriate look. And with the season coming to a close end, I want to get in as much summer-friendly clothing as I can before the winter.

In the image above I've switched out my button-down for a simple navy blue v-neck. This switch keeps the outfit playful with color while maintaining a very casual, clean look.

The Mad Scientist

My look took a little turn when I decided to wear these Tevin Vincent GEMINI sunnies today. They're a little different from most sunglasses that you'd find in-store, but that's exactly why I love them. They have a sort of uniqueness that, as you may have noticed, I try to incorporate in my style. Overall, this look is very laid back, but has it's quirks that make it come together. Paired with the sunglasses, I also am wearing the Tevin Vincent beaded skull & cross bracelets that I've grown to obsess over. Their simplicity is nice, but again, they have a boldness to them that sets them apart from the rest through the skull & cross details.

The rest of my outfit consists of what was once a button-down shirt (now DIY vest), my powder blue American Apparel tee, black skinny jeans, and +Converse high-tops. A very casual look for a simple day of running errands around the city and lounging about with some of my friends. I'm always wearing black skinny jeans because they're able to go with anything. You can dress them up or down and still be able to squeeze a seemingly endless number of outfits out of them. Paired with the powder blue shirt and the blindingly white vest and high-tops, I was able to dress down the jeans quite a bit and actually brighten up a look that could have otherwise been very dark , almost grunge, like some of the other looks I've worn (See my look Powder Blue & Polka Dots for an edgier combination). Overall, I love the look and how well it just meshes together. The sunglasses give me that sort of "Mad Scientist" edge, while the canvas shoes and basic denim balance it out with casualness.

Spring Green

Waking up to great news this morning really set the mood for my day. After finding out that my fashion article submission was received well by the magazine I wrote for, my smile just never left my face. So, since I was feeling so chipper and ridiculously happy, I decided to wear an outfit that reflected that as well. To me, bright colors are truly what embody a very upbeat, lively feel. I mean, after all, isn't that what spring colors are all about? They reflect the life that has literally sprung up around us. Granted where I live, it feels more like summer, I still have until June 21st to flaunt the festive colors.

Enough about why I wore it! Let's move on to what I am actually wearing. I always start off my mornings by picking out what shirt I want to wear, and since I found my stash of American Apparel tees the other day, I of course already had something in mind. After getting out of bed I stumbled into my closet and pulled out my Kelly green shirt and paired it with my all-white denim Levi's that I picked up last year. As far as my shoes go, since they're the last thing I pick out, I went ahead and chose my white canvas shoes from Lacoste since they match the white and green I chose to wear. The whole outfit is very bright and crisp in terms of color, so I traded out my signature black / burgundy bracelets for a nice stainless steel Emporio Armani watch. My best friend was gracious enough to give it to me as a gift and I've loved it ever since. What are some of your thoughts on color choices? Do you think they reflect a mood or am I just crazy?

(I got the shoes on sale so they were only around $35 when I bought them; cheaper than Converse!)

Sunshine and Sperrys!

Sunshine & Sperrys Bright and sunny days call for bright and fun outfits. Don't be afraid to wear colors to match the Spring weather outside your window. Dress accordingly! I like to take full advantage of whatever sun I can get, so I wear lighter colors to keep cool. Button-Ups are always a nice touch to any outfit, and the floral patterns pictured here add a little touch of originality. Sperry's overall are a very comfortable shoes and I just bought my own pair not too long ago. I've yet to regret the decision, and as a matter of fact, I maybe wear them a bit TOO often. Nonetheless, I love them! How would you dress up your +Sperry Top-Siders?
